John Pule – book launch – Canterbury University Press
Canterbury University Press are delighted to announce the forthcoming publication of The Bond of Time: An Epic Love Poem by John Puhiatau Pule in a new edition from Canterbury University Press. The Bond of Time, an 88 page epic poem composed as a lyrical address from a lover to his beloved, is also Pule’s love song to Polynesia, and has been described by Jeffrey Paparoa Holman as an ‘all-but-forgotten classic of Pasifika poetry in English’.
John Pule is a novelist, poet and artist. Born in Liku, Niue, he has lived in New Zealand since 1964 and was awarded the Arts Foundation of New Zealand Laureate in 2004. He was Macmillan Brown/Creative New Zealand Pacific Artist in Residence in 1998 and co-recipient of the Ursula Bethell writer’s residency at the University of Canterbury in 2013.
The Bond of Time will be launched on 27th March by Jeffrey Paparoa Holman at Te Ao Mārama, located on Arts Road, University of Canterbury. More information is included in the invitation below. Please RSVP by 21st March – we look forward to seeing you there!
