Sydney-based photographer MikiNobu Komatsu’s latest book offers particular poignancy to those who remember Christchurch before the earthquakes.
Focusing on the buildings that define a country, his publication – Classic Aotearoa: New Zealand Architecture Through a Photographer’s Eye – features several iconic structures that disappeared from the streets of Ōtautahi after 2011.
The Christchurch Basilica, the Harbour Light Theatre in Lyttelton, the Carlton Hotel – which stood for 150 years on the corner of Bealey Ave and Papanui Rd – and The Press Building are all included.
The images are currently on display in an exhibition at PG gallery192 on Bealey Ave, which runs until May 3.
