Viv Kepes featured in Ten must see exhibitions of February
Viv Kepes is a North Canterbury based artist. Having developed a love of the outdoors from an early age, subjects from the natural world are often a focus in her work. Kepes is a current MFA candidate at the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts. She received a BFA with First Class Honours in Painting at the SoFA in 2017 and has a BSc from Victoria University of Wellington.
“In this new series of paintings, Kepes responds to specimens belonging to the pristine marine environment of the Kermadec Islands from the collection of ecologists, Dr David Aguirre and Dr Libby Liggins. Deemed similar to our coastal ecosystem prior to its settlement, in Kepes’ attention to both the small detail of her subjects and exquisite manipulation of paint, political commentary and still-life painting share new-found territory.”
‘Remember Me, Rangitahua’s Treasure’ runs until 15 March.
